fashionistas like bikes too

ok, rather than post yet another pic showing how damn cold it is here, let us journey away for a moment.... to Paris:

my friend julie (being the artist that she is and soon to be working in nyc, good luck jules!) is pretty keen on fashion. she queued me into this fashion blog the sartorialist a while ago and i confess that i check it out from time to time. those who know me can really see the influence of it as i've ditched my t-shirts, thermals, and carhartts for cashmere sweaters and pressed wool pants. oui` ooh la la... yeah right. anyway, this sartorialist guy takes a lot of photos of people on his travels, and yes, some are probably those annoyingly rich types, but i can appreciate a shot that captures 'the moment.' one that makes us endlessly ponder who, where, and why did she choose those boots for a bike ride? why not. ah la femme... what an ensemble. i love her bike too.

20 degree afternoon

i was trying to enjoy the sunset as i rode home, but the 20 degree temp made it difficult.

sns - sat night snow

i headed out for a little bit of fun in the fresh snow.

urban riding techniques

i was riding on N street and noticed how this guy would ride in the middle of the street for one block, and then switch to the sidewalk the next to cross when the light was red, and back again.

how low can it go?

the positive is that the trail and streets are clear. the negative is the temp... -4 and i'm sure it will be colder by morning.

the streets aren't too bad

but it's 0 degrees with -19 wind chill... get out your facemasks people.

you can't really appreciate a sunset while in traffic... unless you're on a bike.

custom klunkers

looks like this guy made a cargo cycle from two bikes and a shopping cart.

this dude passed me riding this old cruiser fitted with what sounded like a weed whacker motor. i've seen him around before, i wonder how fast it can go? 20~25mph?

i don't just collect bikes

yeah, i'm a godzilla fan in case you can't tell. i have about a dozen different figures, but the big ones are my most prized (seen here on top of my fridge). the one on the right is a toho original that i got for christmas in '78. i was nine years old (props to my mom for marking everything). that was one of the best christmas's ever, because not only did i get the godzilla but i also got my first brand new bike (a blue schwinn, i had to ride my brothers' handmedowns before that). a few years back i found some cool retro figures on ebay, so on top of my pc monitor at home is my own miniature version of one of my favorite 'zilla films: godzilla vs. megalon.

museum of the odd

quite an impressive collection indeed. the installation at the gallery was just a sampling of what this guy had in his house, also called the johnson museum of the odd.

whoa

it was the first friday thing, and i hit the usual galleries. i wasn't expecting to come across this.

sunsets & hummers

hummer limos and mc'Ds... isn't America great?

post solstice, we're gaining a min everyday.

midnight coffee run

the crosscheck does pretty good in the snow with the fat 44c mutano rapters.

the elusive campus wild cat, a dangerous creature indeed. i came across three juveniles, but they didn't attack.
