money pit?

on my way home from targét i saw that someone is working on that HUGE ass house on 33rd and L streets. it probably needs a ton of work but it looks like a neat old house. just think of the bike storage possibilities a pad like that would have! though i'd be a fool if i ever took on a project like that without the skills of someone like 'mr. fix up any house himself' dave.

it's gonna be a foggy commute.

saturday night track action. yeah, i'm a roller derby fan. i headed down to pershing to watch the NCDG's mix it up with the sioux falls dollz. it was a fun time, with ref tasha keeping everything clean, and taura running around doing her photo thing. roller derby seems to bring out all types of characters. taura, what did 'elvis' have to say?

more snow

fresh snow is fun to ride in, and it makes for a pretty sunset too.

last call

and the snow came... and it made the ride home after last call pretty damn fun.

closing time

nate and dirty D about to head home.

grab your fenders

it's not that bad out really... sidewalks are a bit slick, but the roads are slush.

ultra bright

at this time of year, with the snow and ice on the streets, cars are even less likely to look for and expect to see a biker on the road. so i bust out the serious tail light for this reason. i picked up a serfas TL-1000 'ultra bright' from the mwc a year ago, and it is perfect for winter commuting. it's wicked bright, so bright that cars can see you from the sides easily. from behind, the 3 LED spot that this light throws out can be blinding. booyah!

snow monkey

the karate monkey likes the snow. i need to get bigger tires with meatier tread, but for now i'm running nanorapters @ ~ 25psi. so far so good.

violet dawn

20 degrees isn't wicked cold when you think about it, but i'm not adjusted to it yet. the dawn sky was pretty though.

night lights

it looks like they're working overtime to get the old overpass torn down quickly.

lazy monday

i went down to the mill and passed the afternoon with a latte and a few chapters of villaseñor's rain of gold. i'm feeling pretty lazy after the holiday. i don't want to go to work tonight, but oh well back to the grind.

back to town

after watching the awards ceremony, i towed the MPU back to town with a few peeps.

cowbells and dollar primes

it was a fun time hanging out on hooligan hill this weekend with cvo and the folks.

last weekend i built up the old steed into street fixed gear mode. i managed to find the original bar plugs that came with the frame back in the '89. it got me thinking about eagles and symbolism. eagles were big with bike makers way back when but not anymore. i think the bianchi eagle is the oldest, and if carnielli had stayed in business the bottecchia eagle would have been pretty old too.

tuesday night mwc ride tally: 6-7 peeps, 1 flat, 1 large owl, and one BIG ASS buck deer that almost ran right through us after being spooked and blinded by ep and nate's lights.

Saturday, November 10, 2007

i was at a fun birthday party with a number of peeps from the local scene. what a pleasure it was to find this in the kitchen. there is no better tool to use for opening a wine bottle than the campagnolo corkscrew. i've put off getting one for many years (they are quite pricey) but i will delay no more.

game day traffic

it was bumper to bumper madness downtown as usual. i normally would cut through the lines of traffic but the cops are everywhere and testy on a day like this. so i wait like everyone else.

UEP thursdays

Urban Exploring with Peeps. taura was trying to stay warm outside of knickerbockers while we waited for dirty D to show up. she put a cool weldor girl decal on the downtube of her bike cause she still likes to represent. she was a weldor at one time and i think she should get back into it, but this time making bike frames! :) anyways, after some .25 tacos the three of us did some urban exploring. oh, and nice gloves james.

JD green

it will run like a deere.

watch out

it looks like someone got t-boned by a minivan. they already had the person in the ambulance when i rode by. their bike didn't look too bad from where i was, so hopefully he or she isn't hurt seriously. this is at 18th and M streets, an intersection many of us ride though daily on our way to and from downtown. even though we have the right-of-way here you have to be wary. drivers don't look for bikers most of the time anyway but it's even more dangerous at dawn and dusk.

Monday, November 05, 2007

end of DST

i'm gonna have to start riding in the early afternoon now.

el viaje

this afternoon i stopped by campus to see the sheldon's exhibit of graciela inturbide photographs. they are fascinating to say the least. this photograph, entitled 'el viaje', was one of my favorites.

nite ride

super hoss called it, friday nite ride. man, it was primo. a great time, especially the part coming back with no lights, just by the mooonlight.

Thursday, October 25, 2007

trick o' treat

can anyone guess which one i did? i had a fun time last night carving pumpkins with some fellow lincoln-roadies. thanks to kim c for the great food and hospitality.

Monday, October 22, 2007

harvest time

got a flat in princeton. in the short time it took to fix it several big trucks rolled by. looks like those guys are busy non-stop.

when i got home last night from a ride... there was beechum, and he wasn't looking too happy. he's been fending off the advances of this grey femme kitty that has been lurking around the house lately. she must be in heat and beechum, being that he's fixed, can't help her out. sorry little buddy... i feel for ya.

Tuesday, October 09, 2007

royale rides

i was hanging out with royale this afternoon, and my good buddy smoothie showed up to say hi. he's a cool cat, but like i've said many times.. royale spoils him. it's nice to know that some local celebs do like to ride their bikes. royale showed off her urban riding skills as we headed downtown for some coffee.

almost ran her over

i was heading up north on the trail that goes up to superior st, and as i'm about to pass under cornhusker hwy something caught my eye. i turned around to have a closer look and found a good sized momma wolf spider with all her babies on board. i snapped a few before she scurried off into the grass.
