headed east

ciao amigos!

un buen viaje

sending rafael and tracy off on Hwy 1, just east of Elmwood. fue un gran placer conocerles, nos vemos pronto!

tracy

una coqueta... to say the least. ;)

rafael

un chilango (that means from mexico city / D.F.) con su bici 'fantasma 309'. check out his band los sobrios emputados.
que tengas un buen viaje 'mano

milwalkee o' bust

met two cool people last night downtown as i was coming out of the mill. rafael and tracy, who were touring from ft. collins to milwalkee. i helped them find a place to camp for the night (props to CVO... and his wife!). after they had a night's rest i met up with them this morning and rode with them on the mopac out east, to hwy 1 east of Elmwood. they are really nice, biker people usually are. glad i got to meet them. i plan on looking them up in the future 'cause i do cruise through ft. collins once in a while.

a-ok

ok, ready to get back on the bike! sydney is tough.

nine stitches

nine stitches, and they look pretty gnarly. she was thrilled...(not).

getting the gash cleaned up...

watch those cross winds out there. my friend sydney and i were on our way back into town via west van dorn and the winds were blowing us around quite a bit. she clipped my wheel, and bam... kissed the pavement pretty hard with her chin. there was a local farmer/rancher type guy in a pickup who was right behind us when it happened and he stopped to help. he had a first aid kit in his truck so we bandaged her up a bit. we thanked him and then we big ring'ed it back to lincoln to the BLGH TC so they could stitch things up proper.

MWC tues night ride

another good turnout tonight, like 25 people. wilderness was again too muddy, so like the week before we just rode out to the one eyed dog in Eagle. that place has great burgers, être de bonne qualité as the french would say.

"No pain at pump for 2-wheelers"

i'm in today's paper. they made me sound pretty normal... so i fooled them!

hoss

big man hoss pulls up with some attitude. we continued on to eagle a short while later and had some food and drinks at the one eyed dog saloon. fun night of easy riding indeed. nothing like a nice beaufitul nebraska evening with a good group of friends on bikes.

pit stop

making a pitstop on the way to eagle.

tues night ride

heading out from downtown on the weekly tuesday night MWC ride. we had a good group of people as you can see. wilderness was too muddy, so we just headed out east on mopac.

bleak blackness of the dark side

picked up my new road bike yesterday on my b-day. thanks to eric down @ the MWC for building it up perfectly. need a cheap road frame that rides great? check out the pacer. ya it's a bit on the hefty side but i don't road race anymore and i'm not one of those fanatics who count grams and believe everything they read in the hyped ads in the bicycling mags. i just needed a solid frame, and i didn't have alot of cash, so i went basic. it's the 'working man's road bike if you will. see you out on the road. la bici te salvara!

De Brouwerij Pokaal 06 genom linsen ?????

who the hell knows what that means.. (i don't speak swedish). above is my friend freddie sandström, from sweden. he is a photographer who i met here in lincoln in the summer of '04, down at the monkey wrench shop. he was spending a few months in the states to take photos and see friends. he stopped in the shop asking about fixed gears, and well we still keep in touch. anyway... it appears he's becoming one badass fixed gear rider. here are some pics of a 6 hour SS/Fixie race he participated in the other weekend, in downtown Stockholm. looks like a good time was had by all. yo freddie, i hope to visit you mofos someday, and i'll bring my bike!

derby girl madness

ya, this has nothing to do with cycling but i couldn't resist. last night was the No Coast Derby Girls's big event at pershing. it totally rocked! i was impressed to say the least, as there was plenty of hardcore derby action with lots of crashes, and good music during the breaks. these girls are for real, and they could kick my ass. here i am with christine (sylvia bullet), and anna (devilynn wheels) afterwards. they both must have hips of steel cause they didn't get hurt during the mayhem, aside from a few fishnet burns and bruises. i think i'm in love.

hanging at the shop

stopped in the MWC to see what was up. the usual peeps just kicking it on a thursday night.

spikes not needed

only chance all year to use the special snow tires (w/carbide steel studs), but they weren't needed. the roads were pretty clear and not much ice. oh well... was still fun getting out on the BUSS.

sunday

a perfect day for a ride. went out to wilderness park for a bit to test the fat tires on the san jose. a couple of ladies riding horses came on by and said hello.

(just click on the '>' play button to watch)

the san jose rocks

rode the new steed down to the radio station this afternoon. the bike feels great! the brooks saddle is super comfy, and the brown cloth tape on the bars matches up well. it has a nice retro look to it. the 130mm negative rise salsa stem kinda stretches me out a bit, too agressivo perhaps, but it's fun. still, i'll probably swap in a 120mm later. ya, i'm super stoked on this bike.

a nice sunday indeed

went for a ride today. hell.. it seems everyone was out on the trails. i ran into some of the guys in wilderness park, then hooked up with my friend jules and headed down to b&n for a drink. here we are getting ready to roll out on our bianchis. she was digging her new brooks countess saddle she got recently. your volpe is looking pretty stylin' jules!

i like the blue

hmmm... a new SS from Bianchi, and in a cool color too. thinking to self: hmm... put money into car, or buy new bike?? bike wins!

night ride

tuesday was the first 'official' night ride heading out from the MWC for '06. nothing major, just a nice little spin to stretch the legs. about ten of us headed out to walton via the mopac, and then up north on a dirt road (112th st. i think), and then coming back into north lincoln on the dietrich trail. in case you can't make it out clearly (sorry for the crappy pic from my phone) one of the guys got a flat on the way back in. it was a nice night, but still kind of cold... about 38-40 degrees. so by the end of the ride some of us were complaining of freezing toes, me included.

fixed gear fashion

fxyomatosis <--- i check out this dude's site once in a while. he's aussie, and messenger's fulltime all over the place. summers in nyc, winters back down under and where ever else. sounds like a fun life.... especially the part of getting hot chicks to pose with your bike.

fixed-gear 101

i've been riding a fixed-gear for a few years now (granted, not all the time.. of my 6 bikes only 1 is fixed), and it's starting to catch on here in Lincoln. i've met a few people in the last year that have gone fixed for the first time, and they are stoked. you should try it: everything you wanted to know about getting into fixed-gear riding.

rocinante loves the snow

rode my BUSS down to the mill before my radio gig, the streets weren't that bad. i learned how to ride in the snow many years ago, when i didn't have a car. the key is: fat tires... low pressure... relax and don't fight the front wheel.

november in germany

ah.. big guys on derny bikes motorpacing the racers around the track, it must be track season in Europe. i need to go visit my friend in berlin one of these winters so i can go watch the famous 6-day races. this type of racing used to be huge here in the US back in the '20s and '30s, Madison Square Garden was the haven for the world's best track racers. imagine going to an arena with a velodrome, sitting down having a nice meal and drinks with live music, and at the same time racers are whizzing by on the track. so 6-day racing lives on, primarily in Germany.

homage to eddy

why are orange bicycles cool? well because of Eddy Merckx ofcourse! and as for why his most famous track bike is enshrined in a subway station in Brussels? it all happened on October 25, 1972.

annual night of fun

last saturday night was the annual beer ride... not that beer was really involved... really. i mean, i myself don't drink, but i think everyone else did. we had about 50-70 peeps total, maybe more. this pic was taken by one of the dudes (bdiddy, great pic man! his blog is here) as we started out from downtown. what a night.. i got home around 3am.

evacuate

with everyone going crazy to get out of the way of Rita there is chaos on the highways out of houston. atleast this guy has the right idea. good luck man

hanging @ the fountain

stopped by broyhill to drink my latte before heading to work. this cool evening weather sure is great... before long we'll be complaining how cold it is.

2:00am - one arizona burrito & a side of frijoles

in the drive-thru @ D'leon's. props to D'leon's for taking orders from bikers, almost everyone else (mc'ds, bk, amigos) requires that you be in a car... for 'security reasons'. D'leon's is the best fast food there is anyways. just remember the old proverb: man on bike behind car in drive-thru going to get exhausted.

hardcore

if i tried to ride like these guys i'd be eaten pavement for sure. here is another cool clip: the trailer for the bicycle film fest playing in london soon. i should have made a trip to nyc to check it out when it was there back in may. damn

erin's new fixed gear

another shot of erin's new ride. its a mid-80's converted road frame she got from matt (the guy in the pic below). she's riding it brakeless, so she makes the rest of us look like wimps.

chainline

stopped by c-works this afternoon and got to check out erin's new fixed gear. here is matt checking the chainline. i took it for a little spin and it was real quiet and smooth, the drivetrain was perfect.

girls that ride bikes are hot

having fun with kate on the critical mass ride

critical mass

went cruising through downtown with some peeps for the monthly critical mass ride. we didn't have alot of people, maybe 8-10 at the most but it was still fun. if you wanna join us, just meet up at the fountain on UNL city campus union, 5pm, the last friday of every month.

sprinters denied

yes the tour is over and Lance chalked up his 7th. i think it was his easiest win though, and overall the tour was kind of boring. Ullrich was too content being runner up year after year... oh well, but atleast guys like Vino here stirred thing up a bit. he made the finale interesting with a gutsy move in the final km's to take the stage win right under the nose of the sprinters. nice podium babes too!

Tuesday, July 05, 2005

road rash

yep, the Tour is on and I've been following it as usual. Stage 4 crash... a good example why a racer shaves his legs. I wonder how the race will be this year; either a boring 7th win for Lance (no, i'm not Lance fan), or a truely exciting race with some real attacking going on. I'm kind of hoping Vinokourov surprises everyone and wins it all.

bella donna

this is vera carrara on her way to winning the points race at the world track championships in LA back in march. she loves bianchis, and everyone knows i love them too (i have 3 and counting). any woman who likes celeste is a goddess in my book. sure... i think she's hot, but she could also kick my ass on the bike. i'm in love

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

race across iowa

last weekend was the trans Iowa bike race (think 300+ miles of riding on gravel roads and trails). here is a pic of my friend emily, #8 above, as she's taking her pull at the front of her group. way to go gf! she represented lincoln bikers well.

Wednesday, April 20, 2005

film fest

upcoming 5th annual bicycle filmfestival in nyc. still we ride is one of the films being premiered. i think i'll try to get some cheap plan tickets, would love to check that scene out.

Paris-Roubaix

the 'hell of the north' was run last sunday. imagine racing 160 miles over roads like this? a beaufitul race with lots of drama every year. draws thousands of crazy fans too. allez allez
