kim and janna plotting an attack

i went on team fire's regular wednesday night ride. the sun came out instead of the rain as we motored through the roca rollers.

skinny vs. fat tires

if guys like clarke above bring out the full-suspension you know things might get radical. another tuesday night ride turned into a fast alleycat derby up to bob's tavern. track bikes aren't really ideal for derby'ing through muddy alleys and whatnot but... what the heck.

old school

at the shop a few of the new swobo bikes came in, so i was taking a sanchez for a test spin in the alley and saw a sweet '74 monte carlo. it reminded me of the car my grandma still has sitting in her garage in scottsbluff. it's a green '72 monte like this one. it's all original and in decent condition last time i saw it. she doesn't drive anymore so it's been sitting for over 10 years, but when she did guys would always stop at her house asking about the car after seeing it parked in her driveway. they would always leave disappointed because she wouldn't sell it. next to impalas, they were one of most sought after cars for a lowrider.

stylin' and profilin'

afterwards clinton took me out back to show me his new ride... a kona smoke from the mwc.

waiting down @ the I?S salon to get some style from the man clinton. yeah i know i look like i have a simple high and tight cut most of the time, but clinton puts a hip urban touch to it like no one else.

french fries and frozen custard

yes, we know that one shouldn't negate a few hours of exercise by eating fries and custard but that's what we did. :)

ahhh... nebraska

another perfect sunset.

she means you!

perfect weather for a ride so no excuses. thanks to janna for getting my lazy butt out for a fast 30 miles.

cars, trucks, and clouds

waiting for the light @ 40th and hwy 2.

north 27th street

it's not really bike friendly up along the N. 27th street sprawl, but at least the clouds provided a nice view.

my chrome bag needed some repair and jackie hooked me up. thanks sista! along with having a sewing machine she also has one of the tightest looking karate monkeys in town. after fixing my bag we then headed downtown to the mwc for the tnmwr.

vintage

johnny T's new ride... a pre-war vintage 'COOP' brand cruiser. he bought it pretty cheap locally @ recycled cycles. it was dirty and rusted but it was complete, so he took it all apart, stripped everything, and did a pretty decent spraycan paintjob on it. it looks freakin' cool. i dig the swoopy fender stays.

nebraska hospitality

as i swapped out the tube this farmer guy who was mowing his lawn nearby came over and asked if i needed an air compressor. i had it taken care of i told him, but thanked him nonetheless. then, a minute later another guy in a pickup pulled over and asked if i needed any help. then, yet another guy in a volvo stopped too. it's nice to know people will stop and help if needed. that's nebraska for you.

flat

flats suck, but thankfully i don't get very many of them.

how did i end up here?

after breakfast we all finally went home. i crashed until really late in the afternoon so i missed out on seeing the racing at pioneer's park.

uh oh

then came the heavy liquor (mostly grappa and lemoncello)... followed by good laughs and serious debates (latin american politics took up most of that).

we went through a lot of vino

la reunión de los ocho magnificos

when my friend mario (at the head of the table) said he was cooking dinner i didn't hesitate to make sure i would be free saturday night. you don't want to miss out if mario is cooking. mario gets his phd in a few weeks but he says it's only so he can make enough money to retire early and then open his own small restaurant someday. the man from lazise can cook like no other. the other fortunate guests who were there to help in devouring mario's italian dishes were (l-r) el profesor fernando (de argentina), manolo (de españa), and hugo (de peru), along with (r) joaquín (de sevilla), (l-r) pepe (de españa), and ramiro (from corrientes). ramiro was the guest of honor because he is getting married next month in spain to my friend eva, congratulations to them both!!.

schwinn varsity

these bikes will always be cool. i think most of us have at least a few memories from our childhood that included a green varsity. i was just a kid in the 70's and too little for a ten speed but my oldest sister rhonda had one. i remember how she'd speed off on it through the backyard to go to her softball practices and games several times a week. her green varsity locked up at cleveland field (in scottsbluff) was a common sight. nowadays even the young hipster kids are diggin' the varsity because they are retro and can be found in a pawn shops for cheap. i like the pink cinelli cork wrap on this one, nice touch.

i think the kid wanted to challenge me to a race.

heart & crossbones

i ran into my friend angel down at the shop as she was picking up her cruiser. along with a tune-up she had ep put on a new brooks saddle aswell. the bike looked different than the last time i saw her on it which was last fall. the original plain red and white paint was gone and now it had a hot lipstick red metallic paintjob. turns out she had it custom painted locally by a friend, and he even put her custom 'heart & crossbones' tag on the fender. sweet!
along with riding this bitchin' cruiser around lincoln, angel can also be seen on occasion playing bass in the band the fallen77. they played at the roller derby back in march and they rocked it.

i rode out to Crete today. there was a pretty strong headwind so it wasn't easy. i stopped briefly on Doane campus to snack on a few candy bars before heading back.

alps on a sunday

looking south from right about here. some of us old school guys call this section of hilly road the Denton Alps. it's one of my favorite sections to ride through.

milram

sundays are for burning off calories consumed the previous night. yes, i got a new cap in the mail on saturday. i've been told by one of my german friends that Milram makes really crappy milk products. but hey, they sponsor a team and Zabel rides for them and i like blue... so what the heck.

smoothie is a cool cat, but royale spoils him. thanks for dinner royale, the enchiladas fueron muy sabrosas.

lil' bros on bikes

it's nice to see kids out on bikes.

drunk as a skunk?

on my way to Crete i saw this little guy on the side of the road with a can of bud light next to him. looks like he had a rough night.

derby action

it's that time of the year again. Lincoln doesn't have a velodrome but we do have roller derby. i had to go cheer on my friends amy, jane, and christine who were on a new team in the Lincoln league, the hood ratz.

newbies

it seems like every joe schmoe wants to build a fixed gear these days. some guy brought this in. he roached his chainring, and the crank too. uh dude, if you're gonna build a fixed gear at home you need to be sure the chainring bolts are tight BEFORE you ride it.
