look both ways
as i was heading south of denton through the alps, i noticed this guy on the side of the road. i thought about helping him across but i didn't want to disorient him and i figured that as big and old as he was he's probably crossed many times. and besides... snappers are not easy to pick up. along with a dangerous bite, they will piss on you. there wasn't much traffic so i hope he made it across okay.

must've been some glass
i had just taken a call and i reached back to put the phone back in my jersey pocket and i swerved slightly, then i my wheels slipped into a deep crack in the road and a loud 'POP' 'POP' immediately followed. i don't think i've ever had a double blowout. i don't get too many flats, and this one was avoidable, but i guess i was due. fortunately i had the necessary supplies to get me home. an oldschool tip: dollar bills can be used as a boot inside the tire if you get a really bad sidewall cut. both my tires had huge identical sidewall cuts so i had to use one in each tire. despite being pretty damn small i will attest that the micro rocket does work. even though it's rated to pump up to 160psi i seriously doubt anyone could get a tire up to 100psi with it. it took me long enough to get both tires pumped up to 70-80 psi, and with the mosquitos getting bad, i called it good and headed back home.

cigarette?
margaritas
the best way to celebrate getting a new bike: go for a ride and then go for mexican food with $2.50 margaritas at la mex! we got pretty tipsy after just a few of those babies.
champagne
an old friend of mine called me up last week because she was looking to get a new bike and needed some advice. 'just go to the wrench' i told her. well, it came in today and she was stoked. cathleen's new salsa casseroll looks sweet! i dig the champagne color (though i think salsa calls it ginger beer).

chopped
a new gang of kids are showing up at the shop these days.
jimmy tan with an aerospoke on an old schwinn he converted. there's nothing like running a $300 front wheel on a bike that is worth $50. he has his priorities straight that's for sure.
one of jimmy's cohorts just had the MWC chop his bars ridiculously short... he said 'these won't be my everyday bars, they're for when i want to get crazy.'

BRAN memories
BRAN started yesterday, and it looks like lindsey, cara, and cara's brother are having a good time out in the sandhills. i've done it once before back in 2006 and had a lot of fun. i'd recommend it to anyone no matter what your riding level is. i'll have to do it again, perhaps next year.

rendezvous
the crew pulled in about 15min later.
nate and the crew were heading south from platte river state park, so we decided to rendezvous at 334th and church road where there is an old cemetary. there's a big tree with lots of shade which makes for a perfect rest stop.
